Join us in your flapper dresses and plaid suits with two-toned spectator shoes for an evening of art, music, entertainment, food and drink as we gather in Gatsby style. The event will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 from 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm in the Museum of Man at Balboa Park, San Diego. This Benefit Gala will be a unique, fun-filled experience hosted by Silayan Filipina National Organization, and is a fundraising effort to benefit Traveling Stories.
The proceeds will help launch the first Traveling Stories World Library in Manila, Philippines for an underserved neighborhood, by helping to secure a facility, raise money for books, hire librarians and ensure a steady stream of funding to keep the doors open.
We have chosen Traveling Stories as our beneficiary for the Gatsby Gala at the Museum Fundraiser because it offers us the procedural, structural and legal foundations necessary to launch a World Library for an underserved neighborhood in Manila. We are working with Traveling Stories in association with Dream Big Philippines to secure a facility, raise money for books, hire librarians and ensure a steady stream of funding to keep the doors open.
In this process, we have taken the opportunity to become actively involved in the enrichment and transformation of lives in an area where educational opportunity is often scarce.
Traveling Stories offers a crucial element to this project: a tax-deductible, philanthropic opportunity built upon reciprocity. We believe that what we contribute to create a World Library in Manila will be repaid many times over in the joy, discovery and sense of accomplishment that we at Silayan Filipina will receive as this project grows a new community of learners.
The Show
From the moment you stroll into the Museum of Man, you'll step back in time to the era of the roaring 20's. From feather and pearl decor to vintage music and Gatsby attire, we'll celebrate the Night at the Museum - Gatsby Benefit Gala in 1920's style. As you browse, mingle, eat and sip throughout the evening, you will be serenaded with song, captivated by dance and moved by the inspirational performers highlighting the arts.
As the evening turns into night, grab your friends to dance the Charleston, Black Bottom or whatever moves you to enjoy the roaring 20s.

Stroll around the museum to discover food and drink stations throughout the museum. Two no-host beverage bars provide libations - one bar holds to the era's "prohibition" laws with non-alcoholic premier juice and smoothie cocktails, and the other, in "speakeasy" style offering potions sure to get you roaring in the 20s.
